An independent musician wanted to enhance his band’s website // MORE…
Retaining his excellent visuals, I updated the structure and appearance – including CSS3 effects – and added an online shop, including secure MP3 download sales and PayPal integration
Greater revenue potential and good search engine ranking
“you’ve done a fantastic job … the website now portrays a professional image.”
A regulatory body wanted to convert its Excel-based annual returns process to an online system: quicker to complete, easier to analyse the results, safer than handling loads of email attachments // MORE…
I designed and built an application from the ground up, including system design, data design, security, confidentiality, data summarisation, user experience and visuals
A robust, flexible system delivered fast – guerilla development at its best – thanks to can-do attitudes all round
“much easier than last year” // “very straightforward and easy” // “we cannot congratulate you enough for the improvement” // “incredibly user friendly, simple and quick to complete. … I much prefer this method” // “easiest return we have ever completed” // “light-touch regulation that doesn’t come with heavy form-filling”
In the second year responsibility for another return was transferred to my client and the system adapted to handle both returns
A client was concerned that its paper-based capital projects manual was not being used properly by contractors & managers, costly to produce and a pain to keep up-to-date // MORE…
Resisting the temptation to just set the whole thing in HTML, we adapted the material to suit online delivery and the characteristics of the users. This involved organising the content around a process map, layering it by user, creating a search facility, building swimlane charts and tracking page accesses per user.
As we worked together I put the case for adding an edit facility to enable the client to update the manual without having to call in a web developer, and for creating an RSS facility to notify users of updates. Both proposals were accepted
Execution involved creating a custom search engine, drawing swimlane charts on the fly from arbitrary content and embedding learning in the backstage system to minimise learning time, while observing brand and security requirements
The client was extremely pleased, in particular about the business-focused way in which I had advocated the update facility
Three friends were starting a new business. They had a name, a market proposition and some great copy. They needed a website // MORE…
Working collaboratively and fast, I built the site … oh, and developed their corporate ID too
A small but sophisticated and elegant site, live in 8 working days
“It’s been a real pleasure” // “A fantastic achievement”
A multinational business was introducing a new code of conduct. They had some elearning, but the text was far too lengthy // MORE…
Working collaboratively and fast, I rewrote the content to fit the available space
With the word count reduction (50% on some sections) the text fits … and none of the sense has been lost
“It has now been launched, and the feedback is very positive”
A leading accounting firm planned to create a video as part of the launch of some new audit software. Somebody thought of using topical fish as the central characters. But they couldn’t work out how to make it work // MORE…
Working collaboratively, we moved the fish out of real life and into a screensaver (tropical fish screensavers were popular then). From there the fish explained the new software as they watched the audit team use it.
The in-house video production team said my script was impossible to shoot. The wonderful Tony Coe shot it.
The video was used in many countries and proved hugely popular.
A UK national charity needed to reach more doctors with their message about child bereavement // MORE…
Working collaboratively and fast, I created an HTML-based elearning CD with audio, video and interactions
A complete first version in 17 days
“It has been so well received.” They commissioned a new version for other healthcare professionals soon after
A leading accounting firm wanted some elearning as part of an ambitious blended programme for new recruits worldwide. It had to be different: striking, engaging, memorable // MORE…
Working collaboratively, I designed a first-person virtual world then scripted the majority of the content
A well received, distinctive programme that ran for years
The programme is a multiple award-winner
The phone went. “I’d like you to help us with some computer-based training.” In 1986 that had to mean dreadful, tedious stuff. Except it didn’t // MORE…
As part of a tight-knit, talented team I scripted, wrote case material and finished off the computer programming. Oh, and played the dead body
A landmark venture in dramatic storytelling as a vehicle for training that has been a reference point for many who followed. It so impressed the legendary Gloria Gery that she remembered it on meeting one of us … 12 years after she saw it
The programme is a multiple award-winner. One of the few interactive videodisc programmes to make the leap to CD-ROM, it was still on sale 15 years later
